Spinning the Classics

Classics Club has challenged us to a Classics Spin. We select 20 unread books from our CC list, number them 1-20, and on Monday a randomly selected number will be posted. We have until April 1 to read that book from our list.

I selected my list from the 27 books from my CC list that I already have on hand (why make things tough on myself?). Beyond that I tried to keep the list mixed between ones I am anxious to read and ones I am more hesitant about. I did include all the books from my Modern March reading list, including one I haven't bought/borrowed yet. If one of those comes up as the assigned book I will take it as a sign from the universe that I was taking on too much in March by adding this challenge.

My Classics Spin List:

1 -  The Master and Margarita, Mikhail Bulgakov
2 -  In Cold Blood, Truman Capote
3 -  Tender is the Night, F. Scott Fitzgerald
4 -  The House of Mirth, Edith Wharton
5 -  Rebecca, Daphne du Maurier
6-  Neuromancer, William Gibson
7 -  Mansfield Park, Jane Austen
8 -  The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir
9 -  Agnes Grey, Anne Bronte
10 - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Ken Kesey
11 - Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1), L. M. Montgomery
12 - A Separate Peace, John Knowles
13 - Dubliners, James Joyce
14 - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
15 - A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway
16 - The Once and Future King, T. H. White
17 - Cakes and Ale, W. Somerset Maugham
18 - A Passage to India, E. M. Forster
19 - The Professor's House, Willa Cather
20 - To the Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf

  1. I agree that there is no point in selecting a book you can't immeidately lay hands on. That is exactly what I did. My Spin list was selected from readily available list that I would want to read anyway. I have In Cold Blood on my original list but can't get a copy from where I am in Ghana.

    Great list

    1. I have been having the same issue getting books from Canada for another reading project -- they just aren't available here. Is it very expensive to mail books to Ghana from the US?

  2. I'm impressed how many lists have A Passage to India on them. I read it years ago and loved it...in fact it started me off on an India reading binge that led me to A Suitable Boy (which became my all time favourite book!!)

  3. What a fun challenge! I might stalk you for a bit, see what you decided on. I've never read A Separate Peace but I know where I can lay my hands on a copy - I know they made it into a movie (my thing) but I don't know how good it was.

    1. A Separate Peace is a favorite book of a friend whom I admire and adore but don't always agree with about books, I'm a little nervous about it. Classics Club is a cool group and an interesting challenge because you have to select a list to work from when you start.
