AinA Film Fest: Sense and Sensibility

The costumes! The horses! The sweeping vistas of rain swept England! Not to mention the hats and those ridiculous looking dresses! I really think you can't go wrong with Ang Lee's vision of a classic British love story.
I thought Emma Thompson was wonderful as Elinor Dashwood and Hugh Laurie did a great job as Mr. Palmer, the long-suffering son-in-law of Mrs. Jennings. Elinor would have to be made of stone not to fall in love with Hugh Grant's Mr. F.
I loved the scene where all the women in the house collapse into their rooms in hysterics except for Elinor who sits down on the step and drinks the cup of tea she has been left holding. It was a perfect illustration of the relative temperaments of the 4 Dashwood women.

  1. I've just finished S&S for this event and I have the film sat next to my TV waiting patiently for me to find time to watch it. I've seen it so many times but now I've read the book I definitely need to see it again. Glad you enjoyed it!

    1. I will be interested to hear how well (or not) you think the film captures the book.
