Review: Confessions of a Serial Entertainer

Confessions of A Serial EntertainerConfessions of A Serial Entertainer by Steven Stolman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a cookbook, and the recipes mostly sounded delicious, but I read it straight through and loved the quirky, irreverent tone of the author. I can't really relate to someone with 3 houses (no matter how small each one is), but Stolman is an entertaining storyteller and I totally agree with him about bringing flowers to a party (don't -- it is a logistical nightmare for the host).

I was inspired to make pimento cheese and have all my ingredients ready to go for today, though I will be using the recipe from Screen Doors & Sweet Tea since it is my current challenge cookbook.

  1. Sounds like a fun read -- and I hadn't really thought about what it means to bring flowers. Poor host/ess running around looking for a vase a place to put said vase.

    1. That is the problem exactly. Stolman suggests sending the flowers the next day with a thank you note, which is awesome but expensive. Personally I think a bottle of something delicious is always good to show up with.

  2. Yum...I LOVE pimento cheese (and think that would be a great party gift instead of flowers) and totally agree about the flowers!

  3. My husband's grandparents (they raised him) had two houses side by side.

I love jalapeno pimento cheese but never thought to make it myself. I hope you'll post the recipe!

    1. It turned out really well. The recipe is posted here: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/pimento-cheese-sandwiches-recipe.html'
I used Hellman's instead of making my own mayo and used double the Wor. Sauce she calls for.

  5. I like the sound of this cookbook! I've never had pimento cheese. It sounds like a good one for the low-carb dieters, maybe, with celery instead of crackers!
