The lilacs are blooming outside my dining room window which always makes me think of this poem:
When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d by Walt Whitman : The Poetry Foundation
It was written about the death of President Lincoln and is unusual for Whitman in that it rhymes.
On a related note we have: Whereof the Gift Is Small by Maxine W. Kumin : Poetry Magazine
Kumin is a wonderful poet and a New Hampshire person
And: Last Spring by Gottfried Benn : Poetry Magazine
Which was new to me. I love the ending.
